The South includes the lower portion of the country, encompassing the likes of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, counties where most of the British public will have enjoyed a holiday at some point in their lives. From grand stately homes and heritage castles to rustic barns and beach-side retreats, there's bound to be a wedding venue for every theme and style of wedding. Here are a few of our favourite romantic locations to get you started on your wedding planning journey.
Cornwall
There's nowhere quite like Cornwall when it comes to the British coast. Depending where you are, you feel like you could be in different parts of Europe, except it's all just a short drive from each other. The quaint seaside towns offer an abundance of romance, from the multi coloured rows of houses to the cobbled paths and quaint indie lanes. A wedding here offers variety, whether you want the obvious beach-style wedding, a harbour-side soiree or a historic location rich in heritage. Plus, Cornwall is home to some fantastic chefs and eateries, including the renowned restaurant owned by famous chef Rick Stein.
East Sussex
Glorious stretches of coastline, the UK's lowest annual rainfall count and history spanning the centuries, East Sussex is one of the most popular counties to marry in. Whether you fancy an al fresco wedding on the beach, a countryside escape in a rustic barn or a grande soiree in one of the many historic venues, you're truly spoilt for choice. Plus, it's location is slightly more central than some of the other popular seaside locations, with London a short drive away and impressive transport links from all over the country, so no guest needs to be stressed about making your special day.
Devon
A surfer's dream, a wedding in Devon is a fun, boho affair. Say I Do
on the sand and head out for a swim or to catch a few waves after—just think how fabulous those wedding photos would be! And don't worry if a water-filled wedding isn't your vibe. Devon is filled with beautiful wedding venues, from modern, contemporary hotels to traditional manor houses and rustic barns. You've got the added benefit of accessibility here, as Devon is much easier to travel to than somewhere like Cornwall, especially if you have guests traveling from far and wide.
Dorset
Head to the Jurassic coast and you'll have English history and the most picturesque views in abundance. You can experience the best of both worlds here, with a more urban setting in the likes of Bournemouth (with the added bonus of a huge sandy beach), or you can opt for something more quaint and scenic with a wedding in a seaside town like Swanage, home to a beautiful beach, rustic pier and plenty of places to stay.
