If you are dating in New York, there are thousands of restaurants you can try; but if you want to make it a date with a difference, then go to somewhere that stands out. There are some incredible iconic and historic eateries in NYC that are dishing up delicious food that will make your date go with a bang.
Pizza the Action
A recent survey done by Bake Magazine found that 98% of Americans eat pizza, and 54% of them said that they love pizza. If you choose a pizza restaurant for your first date, you can't go far wrong. The oldest pizza parlor in New York is Lombardi's (32 Spring St, New York, NY 10012), which opened in 1905. They use coal ovens to create their unique taste and were also the first pizza parlor to serve customers whole pies rather than by the slice. Lombardi's is still in Little Italy; and the classic pizzas made with whole milk mozzarella, rich tomato sauce, and basil keep customers coming back time and again. It is a great place for an informal date at lunch or at dinner.
Great Pub Food
For hundreds of years New York has been the perfect place to stop for travelers and traders, which is why there are some incredibly historical pubs and eateries in the city. The oldest restaurant in New York is Fraunces Tavern, which dates back to at least 1762, and possibly even earlier. Fraunces Tavern (54 Pearl St, New York, NY 10004) even has an on-site museum that you can visit as part of your date. There are three different bar areas and a restaurant area at the tavern where you can dine. The filet mignon served on a stone is a customer favorite, and comes with truffle mashed potatoes—perfect for impressing a first date.
Katz's delicatessen
Katz's Deli (205 E Houston St, New York, NY 10002) is truly iconic and first opened in 1888. It has been used as a filming location in Donnie Brasco, Enchanted and When Harry Met Sally (I'll have what she's having). If you and your date have a hearty appetite, the sandwiches at Katz's are enormous—people come from all over the city for the legendary pastrami sandwich, which comes extra juicy. You can also try many other Jewish classics including Matzoh ball soup and potato latkes.
New York is blessed with some of the oldest restaurants in the country. When you go out with your date, taking them to somewhere with a rich history can make the time that you spend together interesting and memorable.
