How Many Casual Shirts Should a Man Own?

Since casual events generally outnumber formal engagements, casual garments should in turn occupy the majority of space in our closets.

How Many Casual Shirts Should a Man Own?

Shirt ownership is not often discussed in men's world, but it's definitely something a fashionable guy should consider. That is especially true where casual shirts are concerned since these are shirts worn every day. No, we aren't talking about dress shirts, either. Also, although casual dress shirts do exist, it is good to learn the difference between a dress and a casual shirt to know when to wear them appropriately. Consider the number and types of casual shirts a man should own, so even in everyday wear, you don't get caught wearing anything drab. A sensible guy should own at least 30 shirts that are a mix of the following:

T-Shirt

Some males are just t-shirt kinds of guys outside of work, and that's perfectly okay. After all the business meetings and corporate events, some men just grow tired of collars, suits, buttons, and neckties. T-shirts can be freeing with their lightweight fabric and looser fit. They're great to wear at outdoor summer parties and events, especially when paired with casual jeans or shorts. Tee styling almost always boils down to the color, although men have a bit more freedom in this department than women. Still, most men tend to choose white, gray, or black shirts, which look nice but can get a little boring. Even when they opt out of their usual trio of colors, they usually don't pick anything outside of a neutral-colored shirt. Nevertheless, if the color of the shirt suits your style and goes with the rest of your outfit, then it shouldn't matter. Romantic dates should be an exception to your shirt rule, given that you're actually aiming to impress another person Go for something that's not you but also works for you at the same time. It could either be a v-neck or a crew neck in pink, purple, or yellow. Something bright and unusual is bound to surprise and create interest in a potential partner. That said, t-shirts are for casual dates and not something you typically want to wear to a fancy restaurant. Then again, a Balmain shirt, no matter how plain, would be another story.

Polo Shirts

Polo shirts tread the line between casual and formal, although they are more casual in most men's fashion books. After all, you could look good in one at someone's barbecue party but completely out of place in one at a wedding. You might also get frowned upon attending a business meeting in a regular old polo shirt. A polo shirt has firmly established itself in the world of casual menswear. It comes in a vast array of colors, making it easy for you to pick one that meets your fashion preferences. Polo shirts make you look gracious and professional maybe not as approachable as the t-shirt wearing dude next to you, but friendly all the same. Polo shirts are also the safest of all casual shirt choices since they meet most casual and certain formal outfit requirements. You can dial up the formal factor simply by choosing a polo shirt in a more refined fabric, like wool or silk. The same goes if you pick one that's a little more formal in style and design. Though, at its very essence, polos are casual and, at best, will only be able to meet the level of elegance just below formal. Whatever brand or style you wear, when carried well, it could leave a lasting impression.

Henley

Thinking about wearing a polo shirt to someone's birthday? But you wore one the last five times you attended one. How about a plain shirt then? Nah, you'd want the celebrant to think you at least spent a bit more effort putting together your look. A henley is usually the best solution for situations of this sort. It offers the perfect opportunity to switch up your style in a way that doesn't say you're trying too hard. A henley can make you look incredibly put together but at the same time ready to spring into action at a moment's notice. We deem the henley a casual 'winner' across the board because it suits almost any type of casual event. From casual lunches with friends and an evening date at the diner to backyard barbecues at the neighbor's and outdoor picnics with family, there isn't any everyday event a henley can't make you look good in.

So, these are some kinds of casual shirts a man should own and the number of shirts a sensible guy may wish to have in his closet. While you could go for at least thirty, there's no reason to limit yourself to that number. After all, casual events will almost always outnumber the formal engagements in our lives, so it goes without saying that casual garments should occupy the majority of space in our closets.
