How to Prepare Your Bedroom for Romance

You don't need to break the bank to achieve turning an ordinary bedroom into a romantic space.

How to Prepare Your Bedroom for Romance

When you think about making your bedroom romantic, you're probably thinking about pretentious cheap thrills and excessive rose petals strewn across the floor. Although this is often the novel depiction of bedroom romance, your bedroom is a retreat and somewhere to settle in comfortably with your significant other. You don't need to break the bank to create a well-designed space with an elegant ambience, so consider these creative ways that you can turn any ordinary bedroom into a romantic space.

Making the Bed

Making your bedroom romantic doesn't have to be ridiculous, just start by putting some effort into the finer details. Add some wow factor to the room by adding a show-stopping headboard that makes a strong visual statement. And although you might not consider it initially, a good mattress for couples can make a big impact on a bedroom in the same way that a luxurious hotel bed tends to give you that welcoming sense of feeling invited into bed.

Getting Comfortable

Now that your headboard and mattress are sorted out, it's time to dress your bed. A room that holds its romantic flair should be soft, and the bed is the ideal place to do that. Close your eyes and picture a flowy bed sheet, the thickest duvet, plenty of pillows, shams, and inviting throw pillows clutching to your bed to create the perfect nook for two. You can even try to make your own bed canopy or silk fabric cover where you and your other half can block out the world for a night. Either on your bed or the floor, a touch of sheepskin—either real or faux—can also add just the right amount of sensuality to your romantic bedroom. Sheepskin brings texture to the room and is cozy enough for cuddling.

Seeing Colors

You might want to stay a bit neutral regarding the overall color scheme, but that doesn't mean you can't create romance with it—think blush pinks, creamy whites, and maybe pastel peach. You can add your favorite colors, but try and stay away from extremely bright and dark shades that don't conform to the traditional romance palettes. Keep your primary color scheme fairly neutral and add just a touch of pink or red—perhaps a throw pillow, throw blanket, or even a lamp. If you just want a temporary touch, you could opt for a lovely vase of flowers to add a scent of romance to the air.

Lighting the Way

When it comes to your main light fixture, perhaps consider a beautiful chandelier that adds class and romance to your room. You can also put elegant bedside lamps in for a glow of romance and install a dimmer switch so you can set the romantic lighting to the level that you wish. You might also want to add some string lights across the wall above your bed. You can choose whatever color you want, and you might even be able to grab those Christmas tree lights and put them to use. This will achieve the desired effect of candles without the danger of incorporating an actual flame.

Tidying Up

If you go to all the effort of buying new bedding, rearranging the décor, and getting the lighting right, there will be nothing more off-putting than an untidy and unclean room. Make sure you vacuum your floor, clean the surfaces, and give any en suite a good once over. Freshly washed bed sheets are always a good idea, and make sure you don't have any piles of washing laying about taking your mind off things.

Enjoy these tips for embracing romance; and remember, you don't need to break the bank in order to achieve a romantic environment.
