Florida is known as the Sunshine State; and it is home to some great weather, great beaches, and several mice and princesses! But there are few people that actually realize that Florida is a place to visit that is more diverse than you might think. The range of theme parks and water parks is huge, but there is still plenty to see and do in Florida without stepping foot in a theme park. To start off with, the beaches are some of the best in the world. There is some amazing wildlife—with some unique species only found in this part of the world—not to mention great food, diverse cultures, and some amazing nightlife. So no matter what you are into, Florida is likely to carry on surprising you. Here are some of the fun things you can do in Florida, that aren't a theme park.
Clearwater Beach
Clearwater, on the west side of the state, has been nicknamed as the beach of your dreams. There are some amazing soft white sand beaches and clear waters as well as plenty of space to relax with cabanas, drinks, and beach umbrellas. It has been voted as the second best beach in the whole of the USA for several years running.
Boat Trips
Being a state that is surrounded by a lot of water, heading to the beach is one thing. But being able to get out on the water on a boat trip is also a must. Miami is one of the best places to head for a boat trip, but you will have several choices of what to do. You could go out on a day trip; but in Miami, a week charter is best as there is so much to see and do. But whatever you choose, it is going to be a great way to embrace all that is the Sunshine State.
Florida Caverns State Park
In a state that has so much entertainment and bright lights in your face, being able to take some time out at the Florida Caverns State Park can be a great way to rest and relax and explore away from the hustle and bustle of a theme park. There are limestone stalactites and some caves to explore that are decades old. If caves aren't really your thing, and you want to be enjoying the sunshine, then you can enjoy things like camping, fishing, hiking, and boating. You could enjoy a picnic in the park and even go for a swim in the Blue Hole Spring. If you're lucky, you might even spot a manatee.
International Drive
Up in Orlando, International Drive is a great place to go if you want to shop and see some sights. It is Orlando's main hub with a whole host of shops and restaurants to choose from. Along the Drive, there are some some golf venues and amusement parks like Fun Spot America. There are plenty of things to take up your time on a trip to Florida that don't involve standing in long lines at a theme park.
