In my experience, you can almost always attribute the end of the summer swim season to that one cold rain shower that comes through and cools off backyard pools and area lakes to the point that they are simply no longer fit for comfortable immersion. Sure, you can plop open your fold-out chair at the water's edge and soak your bare feet for a short while longer, but you're pretty much done swimming and rafting and splashing until the sun is repositioned once more in its late spring strength to gradually rewarm the beckoning waters again the following year. Aw, [sigh], as Shakespeare's love-struck Juliet reluctantly said to Romeo, Parting is such sweet sorrow.

This head-turning fifth-generation two-seat sport coupe developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing recently relaunched in 2019 with powerful rear-wheel drive performance and the naturally expected super-fun driving dynamics. An icon among sports car enthusiasts for the past four decades, this year's 45th Anniversary Edition Supra pays special tribute to the model's legendary place in Toyota's sports car lineage and simultaneously honors its pop culture position by blending powerful handling, cutting-edge technology, and slick muscular styling. Built on the 3.0 Premium grade and available in fiery Mikan Blast [which means orange in Japanese] or icy white Absolute Zero, this nostalgic rear-wheel-drive version is outfitted with 19-inch forged matte black wheels, black Supra side graphic, orange strut tower braces under the hood, and a manually adjustable elevated gloss black rear spoiler that rises about three inches above the rear decklid and allows drivers to change its angle to influence the amount of downforce being applied to rear wheels.

Consumers of the edition may select from the GR Supra 3.0 or 3.0 Premium grades, powered by a B-58 twin scroll turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine that outputs 382 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque. Beefing up the package even more, the Supra offers a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission and is standard equipped with double joint-type MacPherson front and multi-link independent rear suspension, sport calibrated electronic power steering, dual rear exhaust outlets, and high performance Michelin Super Sport tires for maximum grip. The Supra was Toyota's first global GAZOO Racing (GR) model and the dream of Toyota President Akio Toyoda whose wish was to deliver a car that is purely about the joy of driving. As a way of helping to put this plan into action, each purchase of a 2024 GR Supra comes with a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association through which Supra owners can enjoy a host of benefits including one free High Performance Driving Event and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events.

The interior cockpit of the 3.0 Premium, available in a choice of the color black or the new hazelnut variation, offers refined luxury by way of form-fitting, power-adjustable, heated leather sports-trimmed seats that come with standard knee cushions for support while hugging the curves. The upscale cabin also features a black leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic 3-spoke steering wheel, 8.8-inch touchscreen display which can also be controlled through a rotary touch controller, full-color head-up display, and the sonic dimension of a 12-speaker, 500-watt JBL® Hi-Fi surround sound system which is standard on the 3.0 Premium. Apple Car Play® and wireless Qi charging is also standard on the 3.0 equipped with manual transmission and 3.0 Premium. The 45th anniversary edition also comes standard with full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and parking sensors with emergency braking function. All GR Supra models come equipped with a number of safety features that include pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, vehicle stability control, brake assist, anti-lock brake system, driver and front passenger advanced airbag system, vehicle stability control, anti-lock brake system, traction control, and more.

As we pull up our boots, thrown on a warm jacket, and head back outdoors to the color-shifting landscape, may the deep rumbling growl of the Supra's dual-branch exhaust manifold happily appeal to our re-sparked senses and bring an abundance of adrenaline-fueled excitement that will last us throughout the seasons ahead.
